It is with great pleasure that Deaf Sports Australia announces that Gavin Balharrie has been appointed as the Chef de Mission of the Australian Deaf Sports Team for the 7th Asia Pacific Deaf Games, to be held in Seoul, South Korea from 26 May 2012 to 2nd June 2012.
Gavin Balharrie is well known and has a long history in the deaf sports community and has held a number of senior administration roles. In 2009 Gavin was the assistant Chef de Mission of the Australian Deaf Sports Team for the September 2009 Taipei Deaflympic Games Taiwan, where he performed well and according to the team’s needs, and this will provide invaluable experience for Gavin in his role with the Asia Pacific Deaf Games team. In addition to his experience in Taipei, Gavin is currently involved in the deaf sporting community as secretary of Deaf Golf Australia (DGA). Deaf Golf Australia is the National Deaf Sports Body for the deaf, hard of hearing and hearing-impaired golfers throughout Australia. Gavin’s involvement in golf also extends to his role as Technical Director for the World Deaf Golf Championships in Japan next October 2012.
Gavin has commenced work in his Chief De Mission role already and is working with DSA director David Peters to finalize logistics (flights, accommodation, apparel etc) and the final team entry lists which are due by December 31st.
Further information on the Australian Deaf Team for the 2012 Asia Pacific Deaf Games will be provided over the next few weeks as more information comes to hand.
We wish Gavin all the best in this exciting new role.
